Good morning everyone! It's likely to be a busy week as we slide into November. Here are the highlights so far: October 31st is Halloween--always an exciting time! Yes, middle and high school students are allowed to wear costumes to school, as long as the basic guidelines are followed: school-appropriate, no blood, weapons, or masks. Cougar points are awarded to the HS class with the largest percentage of participants! (Also) October 31: KMHS High School girls' soccer team will be playing at home against Lee at 2:00 pm November 1: Middle school boys' and girls' basketball teams will play at Hodgdon, 3:00 and 4:45, respectively. November 3rd finds us at the end of Q1 already! Students and parents, please check web2school for the most updated information and seek the necessary support. Report cards will go out next week. Seniors have been asking for GPAs. Though the official numbers aren't calculated until after the end of Quarter 2, Mrs. Daggett will be sharing PRELIMINARY GPA scores later today with students.

KES Weekly Updates: Monday, October 30, grade 1 will have a field trip to The Orchard. Tuesday, October 31, is Halloween. A reminder of KES Halloween guidelines: We ask that your child does not wear a costume that has blood or weapons to school. We also ask that masks do not obstruct vision. Please remember that if you send in treats with your child, they must be store bought. Friday, November 3, there will be a Girl Scout recruitment night at 5:30. Please remember to send your child with appropriate clothing as we head into colder weather as we do participate in outdoor activities. Attention all families: Please take this 5 minute survey from MaineHealth. Even if you completed the survey last year, we need your participation again! Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize drawing and five lucky winners across the state will each receive a $100 Amazon gift card for their personal use AND if you win, our school will receive $1,000. Other schools are participating, so the more families from our school who complete the survey, the greater our chance of winning $1,000! Contact information for the prize drawing will be collected at the end of the survey and will not be connected to your survey responses. All survey responses are anonymous. Please go to the following link to begin the survey: https://redcap.link/2023FamilySCH

Mrs. Jordan's middle school class had time for choice activities, and learning to cook is a passion for a few of our students. Thus, "Waffle Wednesday" was born! Thank you to the students for expressing their interests and learning a skill that will take them beyond their lives at school!

CHY 100 Chemistry students celebrated Mole Day today. We did an experiment to discover the mass and volume of a mole of split peas and talked about the relevance of moles as a unit of chemistry. Celebrated annually on October 23 from 6:02 a.m. to 6:02 p.m., Mole Day commemorates Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10²³), which is a basic measuring unit in chemistry.* *National Mole Day Foundation, Inc. https://www.moleday.org

Happening tonight at 5:30 p.m. Adult Ed. is offering a new group! Please call KMHS office at 365-4218 to sign up. Hi! I’m Clarissa. I’m a Sherman native and KHS alumni. I’ve been a nurse for ten years mostly in the hospital setting but most recently working as a skilled homecare nurse. I’m dissatisfied with our current healthcare model and want to help people on a more personal and holistic level. I’m starting a journey into Holistic and Functional Nursing and Nurse Coaching. One of the first ways I’m planning to lean into this is to begin offering some groups through Adult Ed at RSU 89. The first group I will be starting with will be a FREE Women’s Circle. This will be a safe space to seek support, connection, and community with other women. This will start as a monthly meeting. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, November 2nd at 5:30 p.m. at Katahdin High School. The first several meetings I plan to create group objectives, rules and expectations. This is not MY group, it is yours…ours! We will build as we go, tailor topics to the group, learn and grow together. Please come with an open heart and mind and maybe a cup of tea, blanket, pillow or mat to sit on. This will be an informal and intimate atmosphere where we will start with some breathing and grounding practices and allow the conversation to develop organically. You can follow me at Holhealth Maine on Facebook for more info, information on holistic and alternative remedies and more! I look forward to connecting with you!

There will be No ASP or Cub Care on this day. A new school rule will be put into effect on Monday, October 16th. There will be NO Pokemon cards allowed at school. Thank you for your help in keeping them at home. ASP Announcement: If your child is interested in attending Big Rock downhill skiing they must be registered with the After School Program. To ride the bus independently from KES they must be in grades 3-4 or 5. Big Rock requires you to complete a liability waiver and rental agreement for your child before they can downhill ski. The liability waiver and rental agreement can be found on Big Rock website. Downhill skiing will begin in January 2024 for Katahdin students. Representatives from Big Rock Mountain will be scheduling a measurement/ equipment fitting at Katahdin Schools. At that time the liability waiver and equipment rental must be completed before your child can be measured and fitted for equipment. We will let you know when Big Rock is coming to measure and do the equipment fitting. Thank-you for your attention to this opportunity for your child.
