English 9 finished reading "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. They are creating their own campsite as if they were stranded alone with no adults on an island like the students in the book. They are trying to prioritize their needs and work together with no adult input.

Students in High School Outdoor Education and English 9 had a visit from Barry Dana to discuss Native People and their traditions, specifically the Penobscot Nation. This was a great experience for the students to learn about the Native people that lived on the lands that are around us and also lead us into some more Native studies that will be happening in the next few months in both outdoor education and English 9.

Sophomores in biology are learning about cells and the organelles that make them up. To demonstrate their understanding and further explore organelle function they are drawing either a plant or an animal cell and providing a definition and function of each of the organelles found in the specific cell type.

Who touched Mr. Hanniganās beaker? One teacher out of 6 suspects left 5 fingerprints on one of Mr. Hanniganās glass beakers. Students in forensics were tasked with dusting and lifting the fingerprints from the beaker, and fingerprinting the 6 teacher suspects to determine which one left the fingerprints.
Hello all of you "Hallow-queens" and kings! An eerie reminder that Haunted Trail sponsored by KMHS Student Council will take place on Saturday October 22 from 6 pm to 9 pm for ages 12 and up--cost is $5 per person. Consider wearing a costume that is "eerie-sistable" and join the fun as we spend the evening "Creepin' it real"!
Two of our KMHS students ((both sophomores, both sopranos) have the distinguished honor of being nominated for All Aroostook Chorus and they are both auditioning for All State Chorus next week.
Both of these talented students also sing in our school choir, 7+1 Modern Band, and their church choirs.

Students spent time dissecting fish for a comparative anatomy lesson in Bio 101. Learning about human biology through other animals' anatomy is crucial to understanding body systems and the interactions between systems.
Though this is a few weeks old, we wanted to share these students who helped with KMHS beautification by transplanting mums for the front of the building. Everyone does their part to make KMHS a better place!
Seniors had the opportunity to attend the Northern Maine Community College Open House on October 14th in Presque Isle. The school provided a detailed tour of Wind Power Technology, Auto Collision, Auto Technology and Business Administration at the request of the attendees and a walkthrough of other programs on campus. We appreciate our community supporting opportunities for our students!
The annual free Influenza (Flu) vaccination clinic for all students PreK - 12 will be held on Friday October 28th. Paperwork was sent home with all students and is available in each main office if you would like your student to participate. Signed forms need to be returned by October 21st.
There will be a craft fair at Katahdin High School on December 10 from 10-3. We are looking for Venders. If you are interested call school at 365-4218 to sign up. The cost of the space is $20.
Middle school math classes are using strategies to help strengthen students' math skills--math games are one great way to accomplish this and keep learning fun! These games practice basic operations, strategy, problem solving skills which all come in handy in and out of the classroom š§®š§©š¤©
