Grace is a part of our Extended Learning Opportunities Program where she has been working to find her career path. She started with criminal justice to finding her love of forensic science! Mrs. Harvey's Chemistry class is always a huge brag when a student has a love of science!
Grace had a chance to go and explore the Maine State Crime Lab. Their presentation provided the opportunity to hear about what she needed to do to further her education, what her career choices could be, and how the most important thing is to always be honest! She was able to observe the outskirts of the DNA, Latent Prints, and Firearms lab and the Evidence Entrance. Grace was able to take in a lot of knowledge on policies and procedures when understanding evidence and how all the crime buildings work together.
She then was able to go and visit the Medical Examiner Building and given an amazing presentation based on the science of the body that included some quizzing. Needless to say, in the end, Grace might have been in her glory if you can't tell and is on her way to becoming a future forensic scientist!

The After School Program Health Fair was a wonderful showcase of the excellent research and creative displays made by our students. Students did a wonderful job educating and discussing a variety of health topics with our community.

After completing their Easter stories the writing group created their own Easter bunnies.
In science class, our fifth-grade students received black boxes. The students needed to try to determine what the inside of the box looked like, by moving the box with a marble around; they were not able to look inside the box. They logged their observations before receiving the sheet showing the box setup.
In Ms. Emily’s guidance class, 1st graders read Don’t Feed the Worry Bug as part of our work on managing our “anxiety spot.”
After reading, they drew their own worry bugs to represent those yucky, overwhelming feelings we get when our anxiety gets too big and takes over our brains. 🐛
Each student then identified a coping skill they can use to calm their body and shrink their worry bug… and then ripped their worry bugs in half!
They LOVED this activity, and it was such a powerful (and fun) way to show that we can take control of our big feelings instead of letting them take control of us!

KES/After School Program is hosting a Health Fair from 4:30 to 6:00 today 4/2/26. From 4:30-5:30 in the KES library please plan to attend an informative session on" Creating a Recipe for Safe Technology Consumption". From 5:30-6:00 please come to the KES cafeteria to see what the ASP students have chosen for Health topics. If you are unable to join us and want your child to go home on the 4:30 late bus please call the school. If no call is received we will look forward to seeing you at the Health Fair. Thank-you!

Elementary Grade 2 Teacher
On Friday, Grade 5 students put a mixture of salt and water in a Petri dish on the windowsill to study evaporation. When students returned today, they used tools, including a microscope, to study what remained in their Petri dish.
Our Family Math Night was a lively and engaging event. Students and their families explored a variety of interactive math games. From fast-paced beach ball games to geometry with wax sticks, everyone had the chance to experience how enjoyable math can be. It was wonderful to see students and their families learning side by side, building confidence and making meaningful connections through play.
Katahdin Middle and High School Students were presented with some amazing knowledge from Detective Corporal Travis Chapman from the Maine State Police Special Victims Unit. He presented the students with knowledge on cyber safety, how to be more informed of some of the games they are playing and to always be vigilant. We appreciated having him here and our students did also, as many of them learned a lot and had MANY questions to ask!

Grade 3 students are published authors! We celebrated by sharing with our grade 2 neighbors. What a joyful celebration it was! Students listened attentively while others shared with confidence and fluency.

Fifth-grade students continued their lesson on mixtures and solutions in science class. They determined the mass of 50 ml of water, then added salt to determine how that impacted the mass.
Wednesday our 5th grade band students participated in their first All Aroostook Festival. We had 3 students that participated in the event this year with Ms Hart.
Our 2nd graders dove into something pretty big this week in guidance with Ms. Emily… understanding anxiety 🧠
We talked about how our brain has a “jumpy superhero” (the amygdala) whose job is to keep us safe. The tricky part? Sometimes it gets a little too jumpy and reacts like there’s danger when there really isn’t. When that happens, it makes it harder for the “smart thinking part” of our brain to do its job.
The good news… we have tools.
Students learned that by finding their peaceful spot, through things like deep breathing, slowing down, or taking a mindful moment, they can help calm that jumpy superhero and actually shrink their anxiety spot.
So proud of these kids for learning about their brains and practicing ways to take care of themselves 💚
