The building is decorated with colorful, themed trees and the students are buzzing about Cougar points. I will make two posts because there can only be 4 pictures but I want you to see the before and after shots. All classes did great. Judges were volunteers from the staff. All MS students walked around to view the 4 trees then placed one vote for their favorite. Those votes , by percentage, was counted in the total.
The results were 1st Seniors, 2nd Freshman, 3rd Seniors & 4th Sophomore.

Students in biology are learning about the cell cycle, the life cycle of a cell, and the process of cellular division (mitosis). To visualize this process students used compound microscopes to view cells in the tip of a plant root. The plant root was chosen because this is an area of the plant where the most cell division will be seen. This increases the chance of seeing cells in one of the 4 stages of mitosis. Students were tasked with finding cells in each of the 4 stages of mitosis and drawing what they see, and also giving a short description of each stage.

212 Waffle Bar
What’s 212 anyway?
At 211 degrees, water is hot.
At 212 degrees, it boils.
And with boiling water, comes steam.
And with steam , you can power a train.
Applying one degree of temperature to water means the difference between something is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine.
KMHS application- by pushing ourselves to make a little extra effort in every task , action and effort we undertake….we can make a difference. Two twelve is a motivating and focused message to remind us that what we do can make tremendous things happen for us, our school, our community, our church, our town , our life!
On December 2nd all students and staff enjoyed a waffle bar including Belgium waffles, blueberries, strawberries , maple syrup and whipped topping! We all thank the kitchen crew
(Tammy and Jill) for being so accommodating.
This special treat was earned by our school community going above and beyond just one degree and making someone's day, being kind, helpful, lifting someone up when they were down, etc… There are so many ways to fulfill this.
We are on our way to a second 212…..we’ll let you know when we get there.

Evan has been busy working on his STEM fair project since November 29th. He chose to test different surfaces in our school to see which one would have the most bacteria on it. For his hypothesis, he said that If he tests six different surfaces in school for bacteria, then he predicts that the boys bathroom faucet will have the most bacteria on it. It has been fun and interesting to watch the Petri dishes growing bacteria on them. He checks the dishes every 2-3 days , take pictures, and then record his results. He will do three trials of tests and then record all the data. It will be very interesting to see which surface has the most bacteria. Hi doesn’t know if his hypothesis will be correct or not.
This is one example of STEM fair work being done for the second quarter grade. As a reminder all students who presented a proposal need to be preparing part two !

Making puzzles helps students with fine motor skills, problem solving, shape recognition, concentration, spatial awareness, memory, and hand eye coordination. Alyssa is working hard on this 500 piece puzzle with a lot of patience and persistence.

Students in forensics have been studying blood and the patterns it leaves. After studying how the height that blood drops changes the spatter pattern, today students looked at how the angle of impact changes the spatter pattern. Using trigonometry forensic scientists can calculate the angle a blood droplet hits a surface, so students will be measuring their droplets and making calculations to verify that the angle can be calculated using these equations. PreK enjoying a magical time in our outdoor shelter with Mrs. Berry, our school counselor~

Jim Parker works with some middle school students as they learn about staining and finishing boards. The boards will be part of the benches in the middle school. Real World learning at its best. I’ll show pictures once we finish the project!!

In middle school STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) class students learned about the Flint, Michigan water crisis, and how important it is for everyone to have access to clean drinking water. After learning about the Flint Water Crisis students used household items (plastic bottle, cotton balls, sand, and gravel) to make a water filter to filter out muddy water.
