Sometimes life gets crazy and so much is going on that pictures are not a thought. This event was one of those days! From setting up tables, to getting BINGO cards together, to gift baskets, decorating and making sure things run smoothly, we just didn't have a phone on us, so thankfully our amazing GearUP Rep, Jesse Page, shared some shots. Which works out great because GearUP needs a shoutout also for providing the amazing baskets that were won! THANK YOU GEARUP!!! I would also like to thank ALL of the colleges and businesses that attended!
Eastmill FCU, Army National Guard, Katahdin Trust, Husson, Patten Fire Dept, UMPI, OSI, Mt. Chase Lodge, DHHS, True Connections, Katahdin Learning Project, Forest Services, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Mitchell's Helping Hands, College of the Atlantic, UMFK, CMCC, EMCC, Thomas College and more that I am sure I am missing. But we thank you!!! We are so grateful you could join our students and expand their minds with opportunities! Reports from the students came back great and we are thankful that many wanted to bring parents during their Student Led Conference!

Although this was the only picture I was able to take due to photo restrictions. These two young men, sitting in the Kings chairs, got to enjoy the Johnson Outdoors Facility and see the many opportunities that lie within the buildings right there in Orono! They joined other surrounding schools in the Moosehead/Katahdin Region to explore Marketing, Production and how Engineering is incorporated into making Kayaks and Canoes. They spoke with employees about their positions and how long they have been there. Many started right out of high school and there for 38 years and no plans of retirement!!!
In the Production section, they were able to walk through each assembly line, step by step, to see how they make a kayak and the job openings that are there. In Marketing, they were told of the many positions from film, photography, editing, creator and more. Did I mention they get to travel to France for work?!? Engineering plays a big part in the Kayak and Canoes, they develop the next big thing or how to make something better through design. Johnson Outdoors was amazing to visit and these two learned a lot in the day, so much so that they were fed pizza!
We also learned a fun fact while we were there that Brian from Maine Outdoor Brands wanted to be sure to point out. We got to see all the BEAUTIFUL woodwork for canoes that comes right here from Patten that Dri-Ki Woodworking supplies for Johnson Outdoors Canoes. Amazing what we have here in our own backyards and these two got to realize that!

Katahdin High School’s National Honor Society members volunteered their time to support the Olympians at the Special Olympics in Presque Isle. Their humility, words of encouragement, and positive attitudes were greatly appreciated by everyone involved.
