Good Evening from KMHS!!! Tomorrow (Thursday) KMHS we will celebrate the Christmas holiday with the traditional Katahdin Christmas Coffee. Come to school in your ugly Christmas sweater and an appetite for Dunkin donuts, hot chocolate and coffee. During the day students will present plays on the stage to earn Cougar points. There will be a gingerbread decorating contest, a staff dance ( oh my) and all events will be streamed for safety. Merry Christmas from the KMHS staff. We wish you time to relax and enjoy your time with plenty of friends, yummy food and memorable laughs! When students return on January 3rd it will be a white day.

Important message:
Due to weather RSU 89 ( Katahdin Schools ) will be closed for today December 22, 2021.
A message from Mrs. Heath, grade 2 teacher about Celebrations Around the World:
Christmas in Mexico and Christmas in Sweden. This is a glimpse into the cultures and traditions we have been studying. It’s always interesting to learn where our Christmas traditions originated and ways other countries and people celebrate. We found some similarities, and look forward to trying out new traditions in our classroom on Thursday!
A special thank you to Mrs.
Guptill. She shared her love of music, her passion for literacy, her resilience in crafting, her delectable baking, and the most precious gift- her time and knowledge.

Ski4Life is in full swing. Today Big Rock came to measure our kids for this years skiing. The student excitement of the 2022 Ski4Life year was evident as each student was measured in preparation of our first night January 7, 2022.

MS boys had a great ball season with Coach Karnas!
The Middle School Boys had an exciting season of competition and growth. Beating our perennial rival SACS 3 times, the last game at home in a 4th quarter come from behind win was the high point of the season. Overall the Katahdin MIddle School 6,7,and 8 th grade team had 9 wins 4 losses. However the real story was how these young men learned, not to give up and come from behind. In the last game of the season against Presque Isle, when they were 13 points behind with 2:35 on the clock, they came back with a series of fast breaks and steals to come within 3 points. The memory of these no quit performances will go with them as they compete at higher levels. They learned the best lesson that can be learned in any sport or condition of life: NEVER GIVE UP. Well done KMS boys!

Coach Rogerson reflects on this years MS girls season.
If I had one word to describe this years Middle School girls season, the word growth comes to mind. Together, they worked hard to improve the fundamentals of basketball and blossomed. I’m so proud of the dedication they displayed.
Thank you team and coach for entertaining us during the ball season!!

A look inside today’s physics lab.
In applied physics students are learning about what causes heat, and how this heat is exchanged between objects. After working hard learning about heat at the atomic/subatomic level students performed an activity using soda cans under 4 different conditions. The conditions were: a refrigerator, a freezer, a cooler with ice, and a cooler with ice water. Students monitored the cans for a 20 minute time period recording the temperature every 2 minutes to see which can cooled the fastest. It was discovered that an ice water cooler was the fastest!

Tree decorations pictures grades Seniors then Sophomore. MS voting boxes.

The building is decorated with colorful, themed trees and the students are buzzing about Cougar points. I will make two posts because there can only be 4 pictures but I want you to see the before and after shots. All classes did great. Judges were volunteers from the staff. All MS students walked around to view the 4 trees then placed one vote for their favorite. Those votes , by percentage, was counted in the total.
The results were 1st Seniors, 2nd Freshman, 3rd Seniors & 4th Sophomore.

Last month we had a Katahdin alumni sponsor the booster booth for everyone. This month we have been giving funds to purchase footwear and sweatshirts for 8 students. We really appreciate our Katahdin alumni caring for us.
